I am originally from Glasgow. I have painted a few tenements now and this has to be one of my favourites. It is a scene from Shawlands Cross and an iconic building. Many a Sunday night we would head to Shawlands to go clubbing and it is such a familiar part of my life. It did take a long time to do because I developed a love/hate relationship with the canvas. i would go away for a bit and come back to it correcting all the time until it didn’t want correcting anymore but when it came together, an amazing amount of love. This painting now lives in New Zealand where a lady who lives there saw it on my page. She grew up in Glasgow and then moved to NZ in her twenties but always had a connection with Glasgow and wanted to buy this painting to become a part of her home. It gave me the greatest pleasure to post it to her but as always, it is bitter sweet as I put so much of myself into every piece of my art. I love the whole process and how it ends…you never know where it can take you.
Here are a few more pictures of Glasgow’s East End from the same series.

Hi Morag, have just discovered you! I love all your work but Shawlands Cross touched my heart. As a Glasgow girl a long time living in Mayo, with a granny from Benbecula, I feel we have something in common (apart from my lack of artistic talent). If you had a print of the Cross, I would dearly love to gift it to my dear cousin in Pollockshaws Rd. If not, Nosey Parker might fit the bill.
