The Great Big Art Event idea came to me off the back of Covid and it is a collaborated Visual Art Exhibition which I founded in 2021 and it has now turned into an annual event with a waiting list of Artists to come on board in rotation. It is a gathering of Donegal connected Artists who’s talents in Art differ greatly but equally commendable. I try and make it the first weekend in October, ( depending on Venue availability ) a quiet time of year so something to look forward to before the Christmas madness hits and also a great time to get present inspiration!
The aim of the Exhibition is to create an Art Experience accessible to Everyone, an experience to enjoy and escape from every day life… the chance for people to purchase unique Art in the process or just admire. Every Artist involved is unique to their gift and spend hours creating their Art, from Oils to watercolour, Illustration to Pop Art, Photography and Sculpture an amazing array to be created in this small part of the world and most definitely worth a visit, you will be impressed with what’s on offer. Mostly everyone is Amateur/Emerging/Self Taught so this is a wonderful platform to celebrate what they do. The weekend happens at a relatively quiet time of year so it attracts tourism to our area and promotes our beautiful corner of the county too. Details of all Artists involved each year are showcased on Face book in the run up to the Event. It takes place in a wonderful venue, the Ballroom in Caislean Oir Hotel, Annagry which is not normal for Art exhibitions but what i found it has done has included people who maybe would never darken a Gallery door to come in and open their minds to the magical world of Art and all its forms, there is nothing like seeing Art in the flesh so to speak so for me this has been my goal and aim since day one, Art is for everyone and their is piece out there for you too! The Hotel owners James, Michelle, Anita and their team are pull out all the stops to help make the event a success so we are a winning combination…their enthusiasm and kindness holds no bounds.
